Recently, Boeing received a $30.6 million contract from DARPA to build a 24-foot launch vehicle capable of being attached to the bottom of an F-15E Strike Eagle.

The new concept seeks to provide a way to launch military satellites into space directly from fighter jets!

At 40,000 feet high, the jet drops the launch vehicle carrying satellites, which then blasts into space using rocket engines, eventually carrying the satellites into orbit.

Boeing officials expect to decrease the cost of launching satellites weighing 100 pounds or less by 66 percent if their project is successful.
