Article Tenova to Revamp Tenaris Electric Arc Furnace Image

Tenova will supply an electric arc furnace revamp for Tenaris’ steel mill in Koppel, Pennsylvania. This is part of a wider steel mill modernization program across the company’s Pennsylvania operations. Announced on June 29, 2026, the project will be delivered through Tenova Inc., the company’s US subsidiary, and will include engineering, equipment supply, and commissioning services for the Koppel facility.

The EAF revamp forms part of more than $90 million in planned investments by Tenaris at its Koppel steel shop and seamless pipe facility in Ambridge. The program is aimed at improving productivity, reliability, and employee safety across both sites.

A key element of the furnace upgrade is an advanced water flow measurement system for the upper shell. Tenova said the system is designed to give more accurate monitoring and control of cooling water circuits. Better visibility over those circuits can support steadier process conditions while helping protect critical furnace equipment during high-temperature steelmaking operations.

For steel producers, electric arc furnace performance remains closely tied to uptime, energy use, and maintenance planning. Upgrades that strengthen monitoring and process control can help mills get more output from existing assets, instead of relying only on major new capacity projects.

The Koppel mill’s furnace upgrade sits inside a wider push to keep existing melt-shop assets productive as steelmakers balance demand, worker safety, and tighter maintenance schedules. For pipe producers, furnace reliability feeds directly into downstream rolling and finishing schedules.

Francesco Memoli, CEO of Tenova Inc., said the project continues the collaboration between Tenova and Tenaris and supports the long-term competitiveness of steel production. He added that the work will be executed entirely in the United States, from engineering to manufacturing, to maintain close coordination with the customer and support efficient delivery.

Once completed, the upgraded furnace is expected to support stronger operating efficiency at the Koppel facility and help Tenaris meet changing demand from customers that rely on steel pipe and related products.

Metal Hardness Chart: Rockwell vs Brinell vs Vickers Explained

Hardness measures how well a metal resists permanent deformation. That is, how it holds up when something harder presses into its surface. Every hardness testing method works the same way. You push an indenter into the material under a controlled load, then measure what it leaves behind. What separates Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers is indenter shape, applied force, and how the result is read.
