Sacramento area rocket-engine manufacturer, Aerojet Rocketdyne, has reportedly offered $2 billion to acquire United Launch Alliance, a Lockheed-Boeing joint venture.

Colorado-based United Launch Alliance, commonly referred to as ULA, launches rockets for the Defense Department, NASA and other government agencies.

Glenn Mahone, a spokesman for Rancho Cordova-based Aerojet, said the company would have no comment.

Aerojet Rocketdyne is currently a supplier of engines used in ULA rocket launches, and this deal would represent the company’s first major acquisition since the 2013 purchase of Pratt & Whitney’s Rocketdyne subsidiary, which cost $550 million.
