Article Novelis Will Supply the Aluminum for Ford’s 2017 Super Duty Trucks Lineup Image

An Atlanta-based company, Novelis, will be responsible for supplying Ford with the aluminum it needs to make the 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty lineup of trucks.

Novelis will join Alcoa, which already supplies Ford with aluminum for its light-duty F-150 pickup. The aluminum-bodied F-150 is an astounding 700 pounds lighter than previous models.

Ford estimates that by utilizing aluminum on its super duty lineup, it will effectively shave off approximately 350 pounds while also making the vehicles more fuel efficient.

“Novelis is proud to be a supplier of aluminum sheet for the Super Duty, helping Ford remove weight, improve towing and add payload capability to its best-selling work truck,” said Marco Palmieri, president of Novelis North America, in a statement. “Using what we learned from the massive success of the game-changing 2015 Ford F-150, we are excited to partner with Ford as they produce the next generation of lightweight trucks.”

The Novelis plant in Oswego, N.Y., which will be in charge of manufacturing the aluminum for Ford, has already added a third finishing line in preparation for supplying the Super Duty.

Novelis is expected to begin shipping aluminum from New York in the spring of 2016.

Inconel Alloys vs Stainless Steel: Which is Stronger?

Are Inconel alloys stronger than stainless steel? The answer depends on how strength is measured. Tensile strength, yield strength, hardness, compressive strength, heat exposure, forming method, and treatment can all change the result. In practical terms, Inconel vs stainless steel is less about one material “winning” and more about choosing the alloy that gives the part the right form, fit, funct

Best Materials for High-Temperature Aerospace Applications

Every turbine blade, exhaust duct, and fastener in an aircraft engine faces a punishing combination of heat, stress, and corrosive gas. And the high-temperature aerospace materials that survive those conditions aren't interchangeable. If you pick the wrong alloy, the part can distort, crack, or fails mid-flight. Choosing the best materials for high-temperature aerospace applications starts with un
