Article Medtronic Unveils the Future of Spine Surgery with CD Horizon™ ModuLeX™ Spinal System Image

Spinal systems for deformity procedures are specialized surgical implants and tools designed to correct spinal misalignments and deformities, such as scoliosis, kyphosis, and other complex spinal conditions. These systems typically include pedicle screws, rods, hooks, and connectors used to provide stability and realignment of the spine during corrective surgery.

Medtronic’s CD Horizon™ ModuLeX™ spinal system is one such innovation, specifically designed for deformity procedures. With its new system, the company aims to set new standards for precision, adaptability, and enhanced surgical outcomes. However, the biggest advantage of the new system is that it seamlessly integrates with Medtronic’s AiBLE™ smart ecosystem. This contrasts with traditional spinal implants which have fixed designs, limiting the ability to adapt intraoperatively.

Using a new modular screw platform, the ModuLeX™ spinal system gives surgeons the freedom to customize their approach mid-surgery. This approach has multiple benefits. For instance, the spinal system can be tailored to each patient, while also providing enhanced visibility by improving intraoperative anatomy visualization. Furthermore, according to Medtronic, the one-way connection between screw shaft and head offers superior stability and durability.

Therefore, according to Dr. Nicholas Fletcher, a spine specialist from Scottish Rite Hospital of Atlanta, the ModuLeX™ system is a paradigm shift for surgeons. “The [CD Horizon] ModuLeX™ system has greatly improved my overall workflow for complex deformity surgery,” said Dr. Fletcher. “Its modular design allows me to develop patient-specific, adaptable solutions to match the patient’s anatomy. With ModuLeX™, not only can you see more, but you can do more; the system allows me to be flexible in my approach. In my hands, the system improves my surgical efficiency and visibility of the surgical area, which helps me deliver a better standard of help for pediatric patients.”

Another big advantage of the ModuLeX™ is that it integrates neatly with AiBLE™. This connected ecosystem helps surgeons optimize procedures with AI and data analytics, while also assisting with robotic guidance and navigation. AiBLE™ also provides real-time visualization during surgery. Thus, with the ModuLeX™ spinal system, Medtronic is delivering a smarter, more connected approach to spine surgery.

A Guide to Purchasing Inconel: Tips and Considerations

Inconel® is a family of nickel-chromium superalloys known for high strength, corrosion resistance, and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. Well-suited to demanding applications, Inconel alloys typically comprise 50–70% nickel, 15–25% chromium, and other elements such as iron, cobalt, molybdenum, and tungsten. The specific composition of an Inconel alloy depends on its intended applicati

3D-Printed Metal Matrix Composite Could Boost High-Temperature Aerospace Components

A research team at the University of Toronto has created a metal matrix composite that stays light, strong, and stable at temperatures where most aluminum alloys fail. The material is produced through a combination of laser-based additive manufacturing and micro-casting, giving it a reinforced-concrete-like architecture on a microscopic scale. That structure delivers strength at both ambient and e
