AMS 5860 is the aerospace material specification covering Custom 455 (UNS S45500) plate, sheet, and strip, supplied in the annealed condition. Custom 455 is an age-hardenable martensitic stainless steel that reaches roughly 245 ksi ultimate tensile after aging while remaining formable when soft.

What defines AMS 5860 within the Custom 455 family is that it’s the alloy’s flat-rolled specification: plate, sheet, and strip delivered soft so it can be sheared, formed, and stamped, then age-hardened to full strength with minimal distortion.
