Stainless Steel Custom 450 AMS 5863

AMS 5863 is the aerospace material specification covering Custom 450 (UNS S45000) sheet, strip and plate, supplied solution heat treated and precipitation hardenable. Custom 450 is a martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel that combines Type 304-class corrosion resistance with high strength developed through a single low-temperature aging step.

What defines AMS 5863 within the Custom 450 flat-product family is that it is the standard-melt sheet, strip and plate specification, it carries no consumable-electrode-melt requirement, written to a 15Cr-6.5Ni-0.75Mo-0.60Cb-1.5Cu composition.

It’s the practical choice for general flat fabrication where the premium remelt cleanliness of AMS 5859 is not required, offering broader availability and easier sourcing while delivering the same age-hardening response. Supplied solution treated, it forms and welds readily before aging.
