Stainless Steel Custom 450 AMS 5773

AMS 5773 is the aerospace material specification covering Custom 450 (UNS S45000) bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing and rings, supplied consumable electrode remelted, solution heat treated and precipitation hardenable. Custom 450 is a martensitic, age-hardenable stainless steel offering Type 304-class corrosion resistance with high strength after aging.

What defines AMS 5773 within the Custom 450 family is its melt practice: the material is consumable electrode remelted (VAR), which produces a cleaner, lower-inclusion microstructure with improved transverse ductility, fatigue life and toughness for flight- and rotating-critical parts. It is also the only Custom 450 long-product specification that adds drawn wire to the covered forms, under a 15Cr-6.5Ni-0.75Mo-0.30Cb-1.5Cu composition.  Material is delivered solution treated so it can be drawn, machined or formed before aging to the required H-condition.
