Stainless Steel 17-4PH AMS 5643

AMS 5643 is the aerospace material specification covering 17-4PH stainless steel (UNS S17400) bars, wire, forgings, mechanical tubing and rings, supplied solution heat treated and precipitation hardenable. It’s the most widely specified 17-4 standard in aerospace and industrial purchasing.

AMS 5643 is the standard air-melted grade and covers the widest range of long-product forms under one specification. A single spec covers the whole machined-part range, from small-diameter wire for fasteners and springs to heavy bar, rings and forgings for shafts and fittings. Material is shipped in Condition A. Buyers can then age it to any condition from H900 for maximum strength to H1150 for toughness, or order it pre-aged, such as AMS 5643 in H1025. That flexibility, together with wide availability and moderate cost, makes it the default 17-4 spec wherever vacuum-remelted cleanliness is not required.
