Aluminum 6061 AMS QQ A 225 8A

QQ-A-225/8 is the federal specification for 6061 aluminum bar, rod, wire and special shapes that are rolled, drawn or cold finished. Its SAE version, AMS-QQ-A-225/8B, was cancelled in December 2010.

What defines QQ-A-225/8 is cold finishing. Instead of being used straight off the extrusion press, the product is drawn or rolled to size, which gives tighter diameter tolerances, straighter lengths and a smoother surface. That’s what screw machines and CNC lathes want for high-volume turned parts. It’s typically supplied as T6 or T651 rod and bar. Current buys are usually to ASTM B211 or AMS 4117, which cover the same product.

Typical uses for QQ-A-225/8 include:

• Screw machine parts, fasteners and pins
• Precision turned fittings, valve bodies and connectors
• Drawn wire for rivets and small formed parts
