Aluminum 6061 AMS 4150
AMS 4150 is the aerospace material specification covering 6061 aluminum extrusions in the T6 temper, solution and precipitation heat treated. It covers extruded bar, rod, tube and profiles, plus rings made from extrusions.
What defines AMS 4150 is that it’s the plain T6 extrusion. It isn’t stretched for stress relief after quenching. That makes it the right choice for profiles used close to their extruded shape, like angles, channels, tees and custom sections that are cut to length, drilled and assembled with light machining. It’s often dual certified to ASTM B221. Where you’ll be removing a lot of material, the stress-relieved T6511 condition is the better buy.
Typical uses for AMS 4150 include:
- Seat tracks, floor beams and stiffeners
- Extruded frames, rails and channels
- Rings and ring frames formed from extrusions
- Ground support equipment structure
For extrusions that will be heavily machined, see the stress-relieved companion specification AMS 4173. Full chemical composition and mechanical properties are on the 6061 aluminum page.
