Aluminum 6061 AMS 4127

AMS 4127 is the aerospace material specification covering 6061 aluminum forgings and rolled or forged rings in the T6 temper, solution and precipitation heat treated.

What defines AMS 4127 is the forged grain flow. Forging and ring rolling align the grain with the part’s shape, which gives better fatigue resistance and toughness than machining the same shape out of plate or bar. This is the standard T6 condition, quenched and aged without a stress-relief step, so it suits forgings and rings that are sized and shaped close to the final part and don’t need heavy machining.

Typical uses for AMS 4127 include:

• Rolled rings for flanges, adapters and housings
• Closed-die forgings for brackets, fittings and wheels
• Missile, satellite and launch vehicle ring frames
