Aluminum 6061 AMS 4083

AMS 4083 is the aerospace material specification covering 6061 aluminum seamless, drawn, round tubing of hydraulic quality in the T6 temper, solution and precipitation heat treated.

What defines AMS 4083 is that it’s the active aerospace spec for full-strength 6061 hydraulic lines, and the replacement for the cancelled MIL-T-7081 and AMS-T-7081. Hydraulic quality goes well beyond general tube. It means tighter controls on wall thickness, surface condition, cleanliness and freedom from defects, because a flaw in a pressurized fluid line can cause a leak or burst in flight. There’s no true commercial equivalent. ASTM B210 tube isn’t made to hydraulic quality.

Typical uses for AMS 4083 include:

• Aircraft hydraulic supply and return lines
• Fuel, oil and lubrication lines
• Pneumatic and instrument lines on aircraft and helicopters

T6 tube bends less tightly than T4, so plan generous bend radii.
