Aluminum 6061 AMS 4027

AMS 4027 is the aerospace material specification covering 6061 aluminum sheet in the T6 temper and plate in the T651 temper, solution and precipitation heat treated. It’s the full-strength condition of 6061, with minimums of about 42 ksi tensile and 35 ksi yield.

What defines AMS 4027 is that it’s the active aerospace callout for ready-to-use 6061 flat product. There’s no heat treating after purchase. Plate is supplied as T651, which means it’s stretched 1-3% after quenching to relieve internal stress, so it stays flat when you machine pockets and profiles into it. It’s the most widely bought 6061 aerospace plate, and it’s commonly dual certified to ASTM B209, the commercial sheet and plate spec.

Typical uses for AMS 4027 include:

• Machined brackets, fittings, ribs and mounting plates
• Avionics and electronics chassis and enclosures
• Satellite and launch vehicle panels and structure
• Tooling plate, jigs and fixtures for aerospace manufacturing

T6 sheet doesn’t take tight bends, so use the annealed condition if the part needs forming.
