Aluminum 6061 AMS 4025

AMS 4025 is the aerospace material specification covering bare 6061 aluminum sheet and plate in the O (annealed) temper. Annealed 6061 has a maximum tensile strength of about 22 ksi, so it’s the easiest condition to form.

What defines AMS 4025 is that it’s the bare, annealed starting point for formed 6061 parts. It’s soft enough for tight bends, stretch forming, deep drawing and spinning without cracking. Once the part’s formed, you solution heat treat and age it to T4 or T6 for full strength. With no cladding, it machines, welds and anodizes cleanly, which is why it’s preferred over Alclad when the part will be anodized or welded.

Typical uses for AMS 4025 include:

• Formed and drawn aircraft brackets, ducts and fairings that are heat treated after forming
• Spun domes, cones and enclosures
• Welded assemblies that are post-weld heat treated
