Aluminum 4032

Catalog Image

4032 aluminum is a high-silicon, heat-treatable aluminum alloy designed for applications requiring excellent wear resistance, dimensional stability, and good machinability. With a silicon content of approximately 12%, Aluminum 4032 offers improved hardness and reduced thermal expansion compared to many other aluminum alloys.

This alloy is commonly used in precision components where tight tolerances, wear resistance, and elevated-temperature performance are important. Aluminum 4032 maintains good strength at operating temperatures that can cause distortion or excessive wear in lower-silicon aluminum alloys.

Because of its unique composition, Aluminum 4032 provides better wear resistance than alloys such as 2024 or 6061, while still retaining favorable machining characteristics. It is frequently selected for high-performance mechanical and aerospace applications where dimensional stability is critical.

Tech Steel & Materials supplies Aluminum 4032 in specification-compliant forms with full material traceability and certification to meet demanding engineering requirements.

4032 Aluminum FAQ

What is 4032 aluminum used for?

4032 aluminum is commonly used for precision components requiring excellent wear resistance, dimensional stability, and good high-temperature performance, such as pistons, bushings, bearings, and aerospace mechanical parts.

Is 4032 aluminum heat treatable?

Yes. Aluminum 4032 is a heat-treatable alloy and is supplied in various tempers to achieve the desired combination of strength, hardness and wear resistance.

Is 4032 aluminum wear-resistant?

Yes. Due to its high silicon content, 4032 aluminum offers excellent wear resistance compared to many standard aluminum alloys, making it suitable for sliding and high-friction applications.

Is 4032 aluminum weldable?

Aluminum 4032 is generally not recommended for welding. The high silicon content can lead to brittle welds and cracking. Mechanical fastening or alternative joining methods are typically preferred.

How does 4032 aluminum compare to 2618 aluminum?

While both alloys are used in high-performance applications, 4032 aluminum provides superior wear resistance and dimensional stability, whereas 2618 aluminum offers better toughness and strength retention at elevated temperatures. The choice depends on whether wear resistance or high-temperature toughness is the primary requirement.
