The United States is preparing to sell almost $1 billion in armored vehicles, warplanes, and surveillance equipment to Iraq.

The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency says, “The proposed sale of these aircraft, equipment and support will enhance the ability of the Iraqi forces to sustain themselves in their efforts to bring stability to Iraq and to prevent overflow of unrest into neighboring countries.”

This deal comes after a recent announcement that Iraq agreed to purchase 36 US F-16 fighter jets.

The latest transaction features 200 “up-armored” Humvee vehicles with machine gun mounts, worth $101 million, and seven aerostats plus deployment towers worth approximately $90 million.
