Stainless Steel A286 AMS 5732

AMS 5732 is a sub-type specification of Stainless Steel A286, itself a precipitation-hardenable super-alloy based on iron. This specification is already solution and precipitation heat treated at 1300-1400 °F (704-760 °C) for 16 hours, followed by air cooling. The resulting hardness ranges from 248-341 HB. Tech Steel & Materials offers AMS 5732 in multiple shapes, including bar, custom tubes, forging, ring, tubing, and wires.

AMS 5732 possesses many favorable properties, including excellent strength at high temperatures, excellent corrosion resistance up to 1300 °F (700 °C), and low-temperature non-magnetic strength, down to -320 °F (-196 °C). Because of that, it finds use in many fields, but mainly in the aircraft industry for jet engine components, industrial gas turbine parts, superchargers in internal-combustion engines, etc.

Additionally, AMS 5732 can be readily formed, and cold worked, just like other austenitic steels. Moreover, the parts can be machined using standard methods. The alloy can be readily welded using traditional methods, including gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, and shielded metal arc. Any nickel-based steel can be used as filler metal, but a filler wire of the same specification is recommended. Also, for optimal results, the weld bead should be raised, and the parts in the annealed condition.
